The other night I received an email from a contact at No Means No Worldwide, an amazing organization I spent time with in Nairobi last year for a story that eventually landed at Newsweek/The Daily Beast.
She thought my latest article on the organization, published in the December 2013 print edition of Marie Claire Australia, was really well done and wanted to let me know.
One minor issue: I never wrote about the organization for Marie Claire Australia. Marie. Claire. Australia.
I figured she may have sent the email to the wrong person, so we went back and forth a bit and eventually she sent me a scanned copy of the article (which is below). Definitely my writing.
Long story short, Newsweek has some syndication deal with The Washington Post Company, which somehow led to Marie Claire Australia picking it up.
Which is great! No Means No Worldwide is a remarkably effective organization doing wonderful work, and the more words spilled about it, the better.
But now when someone asks me where I’ve been dead-tree-published? “Marie Claire Australia. (Crickets. The rest was silence…) You know, the women’s fashion-oriented magazine in Australia? Because obviously.”
Oh, and here’s the cover. I was published in a print magazine with this cover.
